Sweet dreams are certainly in the eye of the beholder. Not everyone likes visions of sugar plums dancing in their head; some of us see tennis players. And a battle between two of the best, Roger Federer and Pete Sampras, in New York City on Monday evening – well, that’s a dream come true!
Responsible for bringing tennis back to Madison Square Garden for the first time in 12 years, the NetJets Showdown has Federer and Sampras facing off at 7:30pm Monday evening. The “Clash of Tennis Titans” has landed tennis right in the sports spotlight. Exceeding initial expectations, 8,000 tickets were gone within the first 72 hours and the entire event sold-out in three weeks. Though, no big surprise to true tennis fans; after all, the two icons combined have won 26 Grand Slam titles, spent 500 weeks at number 1, and have captured nine US Open Championships and 12 Wimbledon titles.
Think the NetJets Showdown brings extra power, intensity, passion and emotion for Federer? Very likely so! Four years at number 1 means that along with competing against the current pros on the tour, Federer is going after history – Borg, Lendl, McEnroe, Agassi and Sampras – a quest to be the best of the best!
Certainly a dream worth chasing!
